Another guilt trip

Ms. Mittens, the beloved pet of one Lilian and Victoria Meadows, found herself in a peculiar position of simultaneous power and vulnerability. Her eyes, reflected in the eyes of the women who had raised her since she was a kitten, evoked the image of a child left out in the rain or a hope smothered out like the flame of a candle: an intricately calculated visage. Unfortunately for Mittens, the only thing Lilian and Victoria loved more than their darling cat was a good deal on airfare.
